Summary
Beschreibung Reversible solid oxide cells (rSOC) can alternate between generating electricity as fuel cells and converting electricity into hydrogen and methane in electrolysis mode. This makes them well suited for combining the gas and electricity grid. Their economic profitability depends heavily on cell lifetime. In a collaborative project, we are working with a startup to investigate the degradation of short stacks. The aim is a physically founded prediction of how stack performance develops over several years of operation. In this thesis, degradation will not be described as an average voltage loss but rather as a time-dependent change in physical model parameters such as activation energies and limiting current densities. Each mechanism will be modeled by a correlation that depends on the operating conditions (temperature, current density, gas composition, operating mode). Implemented in Python, this model will be the basis to predict long term SOC degradation. Voraussetzungen • Solid foundation in chemical reaction engineering and physical modeling • Solid programming skills in Python • Helpful: mathematical understanding of optimization
