Kurzbeschreibung
About us: The Department of Neuroscience connects fundamental and translational research on sensory systems, covering molecular, cellular, peripheral, and central levels. As a link between the Hearing4all and NaviSense Clusters of Excellence and as an interface between Medicine and Biology, the Department promotes interdisciplinary research in sensory neuroscience. The advertised professorship will extend this profile by adding central sensory processing, population activity, and behavioral control in vertebrates. Further information is available here: https://uol.de/en/neurosciences. Your tasks: • The focus area of your new position is the investigation of central sensory processing in vertebrate systems, the analysis of neuronal population activity in behaving animals, and the study of sensory-guided behavior. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding how sensory information is represented in central neural circuits, integrated across modalities, and transformed into natural behaviors such as communication, social interaction, orientation, navigation, or decision-making. • You will apply modern systems neuroscience methods, such as high-density electrophysiology, optical imaging, or functional ultrasound imaging, to investigate central sensory processing. In doing so, you will contribute to advancing the Department’s sensory neuroscience profile, build bridges between invertebrate and vertebrate systems as well as between fundamental and translational research, and advance planned collaborative initiatives in multimodal and behaviorally oriented neuroscience. You will strengthen the Department’s team-based approach to research and teaching. • You mentor and promote the academic career development of students and employees. • You represent the teaching subject Neurobiology in its entirety. • You offer courses in English and German on Bachelors and Masters levels. • As the universities of Oldenburg and Bremen are connected by a cooperation agreement, active participation in the cooperation is expected. • You participate in academic self-governance. • You promote a university culture that is diverse and equitable. Your profile: Required: • You meet the appointment requirements specified in section 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG). • You have demonstrated expertise in experimental research on sensory processing in the vertebrate brain (non-primates). • You have a strong track record in state-of-the-art methods for measuring neuronal population activity, such as high-density electrophysiology, multiphoton microscopy, or functional ultrasound imaging. • You have a collaborative research profile and the ability to establish strong links with the Research Center Neurosensory Science and at least one of the Departments of Neuroscience, Human Medicine, or Psychology. • You have successfully acquired competitive third-party funding. • You have achieved excellent publications in international peer-reviewed journals. • You have a cooperative working style that promotes a diverse and equitable working environment. • You have experience in mentoring and promoting academic career development • You demonstrate your ability to connect to the described research and teaching areas in a concept of max. 4 pages each. • You possess very good English skills. • To participate in academic self-governance and teaching, you are willing to acquire sufficient German language skills within 3 years after appointment. Desirable: • Your research incorporates multimodal approaches. • In your research, you manipulate neural activity using modern techniques to causally link sensory representations with behavior. • Your research profile offers strong opportunities for collaboration with research groups working at the molecular and cellular levels. • Your research is well suited for comparative approaches across vertebrate and invertebrate systems. • You have experience with data-driven and model-based analytical methods. • You have experience in international research and teaching environments. We offer: • A creative, international and inspiring working environment. We promote interdisciplinary cooperation within the university, with universities and research institutions around the world, as well as renowned university institutes and external research institutions. • A wide service and advisory offers, e.g. for international researchers, for reconciling family and work or for applying for national, European and international research funding. • A diverse range of further education offered for all career levels, as well as services for occupational health promotion. • A certified family-friendly university on a lively and sustainable campus with good infrastructure. Our standards: The university is committed to transparent and quality-assured procedures. We aspire to increase the proportion of female professors and encourage women to apply. Women will be given preference in the selection process in case of equal qualifications. Applications from people with disabilities or those with equal status will be given preference in the selection process in case of equal suitability, qualifications and performance. To protect your interests, please indicate in your application letter whether you have a disability or equal status.
